Lorraine Warren and her late husband, Ed Warren, were paranormal investigators. She is a self-proclaimed clairvoyant, and he was a self-taught, expert Demonologist. They are authors of numerous books about their private paranormal investigations. The couple founded the New England Society for Psychic Research (which is the oldest ghost hunting group in New England). Lorraine, who is currently 86 years old, paid SCSU a visit Wednesday, October 30th at 8pm. Those who were in attendance were able to hear some of her stories and experiences first hand.
I had not heard of the Warrens until I watched the movie "The Conjuring" over the summer. It was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. In case you haven't seen it, the film is based on one of Ed and Lorraine's paranormal investigations in which they help a family being terrorized by a demonic presence in their home. When I had heard that the woman who inspired one of my favorite movies was coming to my school I knew I had to see her.
I have always loved all things paranormal. Every time I go somewhere new I check to see if the town or state has any infamous, haunted landmarks that are open to the public. My two favorite haunted places I've visited are the Whaley House in San Diego, California and the Old Charleston Jail in Charleston, South Carolina. I absolutely believe in ghosts, and Lorraine's accounts of past investigations were beyond fascinating.
Unfortunately, I could not take any pictures, but she is honestly an adorable old woman. You could never tell all of the horrors this woman has seen just by looking at her. Just a few of the events she spoke about included her involvement in the famous Amityville Horror (which was also made into a popular movie). The other cases I had personally never heard of, but she spoke about many investigations that occurred right here in Connecticut!
I would have to say, the most riveting part of her presentation was the video of a real exorcism. I have seen many exorcisms in movies in the past, but there is something different about watching one where you know that the subject is a real person and not just an actor. Lorraine Warren's visit was nothing less than thrilling, and I would have paid much more than the mere $8 Southern was charging to see her.
